Product Details

Is it a work of art or a musical instrument? This beauty is both! The Rebana is a traditional drum in Java. Made from goat skin on a mango wood frame with beautiful batik printed “Jumping Fish” this drum sounds as good as it looks. Display while not playing, it really is a thing of beauty! 9" The Rebana is a drum or tambourine originating in ethnic Malaysia and is used mostly for devotional music and ceremonies in Southeast Asia.

How to Play: Hold the frame in one hand and slap the fingers of your free hand just inside the rim to produce a ‘tone’ sound. Bounce your palm in the middle for a ‘base’ sound. Pressing the drum skin with the fingers of your first hand, while striking the drum chokes the sound. Use the single drum stick for a louder beat. Traditionally this drum is only played by hand. Fair Trade and Handmade.
